OUR MANDATE
The Department of Agriculture aims to improve the lives of rural South Africans by focusing on rural development, land reform, and food security. This includes addressing basic needs, promoting land reform and rural businesses, supporting local markets and infrastructure, increasing investment in agricultural infrastructure for smallholder farmers, improving land tenure security, addressing land claims, and expanding the “Food for All” program to provide affordable food to poor communities. The department also supports cooperatives and promotes access to markets for small-scale producers.
OUR MISSION
Promote, support and coordinate rural development and agrarian reform interventions to reduce poverty and underdevelopment through job creation, integrated food security programmes, and equitable participation in development by all rural communities.
